After the field was cut from 156 to 70, Round 3 of the PGA Championship begins this morning.

A duo of American golfers, Alex Smalley and Maverick McNealy, sit atop the leaderboard at four under par after 36 holes.

Brutal morning winds and what defending champion Scottie Scheffler described as “kind of absurd” pin locations kept the field bunched together, with 44 players sitting within five shots of the lead, including Rory McIlroy (who is five shots behind and tied for 30th) and Scheffler, who is within striking distance at two shots under par.

Some big names narrowly didn’t make the cut; Bryson DeChambeau failed to recover from a disastrous opening round and missed the cut at a major for the second consecutive time, while Garrick Higgo missed Round 3 by a single stroke, made even more devastating thanks to the two-stroke penalty he received on Thursday for being late to his tee time.
