Hoda Kotb No Longer Traveling to 2026 Winter Olympics Amid Savannah Guthrie’s Mom Nancy’s Disappearance

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 7, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

Former Today show coanchor Hoda Kotb has had a change of plans with her 2026 Winter Olympics experience.

Kotb, 61, will no longer travel to Milan for NBC’s Winter Olympics coverage, Us Weekly can confirm.

According to People, who first reported the news, Saturday Today coanchor Peter Alexander will report from Milan along with other NBC correspondents.

The news comes as the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, continues in and around Tucson, Arizona.

While Savannah, 54, has left New York and traveled to the area to be closer to family, her coworkers — including Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle Jones and Carson Daly — have continued to work from Studio 1A in Rockefeller Center and share updates.

“This whole thing is breaking my heart and I’m happy to be sitting here with you,” Kotb shared during a special guest appearance on Friday’s episode. “I picture Savannah sitting there. I just want to say good morning and everybody’s hoping and praying for Nancy’s safe return.”

Kotb praised the “massive show of support” from viewers and the nation as investigators work to bring Nancy, 84, home.

“From vigils to people offering positive thoughts online, and just a lot of hope,” she noted. “The nation’s rallying around our dear friend Savannah and her family — believing their dear mom Nancy will be back soon in their loving arms. We’re all so close with her, we all want to help her. I’m looking at us and I was thinking, ‘Who was first in the hospital when [my daughter] Hope was sick? Savannah. Who hopped on a plane when [Carson’s] parents [died]? Savannah. Who was sitting by [Sheinelle’s late husband] Uche [Ojeh]’s side? How about when your brother passed, [Craig]? She was there.’”

News broke on February 1 that Nancy was reported missing in Arizona.

According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, Nancy traveled to a family dinner via an Uber around 5:32 p.m. local time on January 31 and was dropped off by family at her home at 9:48 p.m. Authorities were able to confirm the garage door closed at 9:50 p.m.

At 1:57 a.m. on February 1, Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected. Later, at 2:12 a.m., software detected something on camera, but footage is not available. In a press conference, Nanos said the movement could have been an animal.

As of Friday, police had yet to name any suspects or persons of interest.

Although Savannah was initially set to host the 2026 Winter Olympics ceremony, she withdrew from her duties after her mom went missing. Mary Carillo later took her spot and joined Terry Gannon for the special event.

“That is exactly what it takes to bring you the Olympics, a team and we are certainly without a very important, beloved member of our team tonight: Our friend and colleague Savannah Guthrie,” Gannon said during Friday’s live broadcast. “She is dearly missed by everybody here.”

Savannah’s brother, Camron Guthrie, was the last family member to address the public about Nancy’s disappearance. In an Instagram video posted on Thursday, February 6, Camron pleaded for his mom’s safe return.

“Whoever it out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly,” he shared. “We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward. But first, we have to know if you have our mom. We want to talk to you and we are waiting for contact.”

Anyone with tips or leads related to Nancy’s disappearance is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI in addition to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department number, 520-351-4900.
