‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Hints at Another Possible Exit After a Resident Commits a Medical Crime

News RoomBy News RoomMarch 27, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

The Grey’s Anatomy exits might not be over yet, as the newest episode hints at a departure after a resident committed a crime.

During the Thursday, March 26, episode of the ABC series, Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) grew attached to a new patient: a father with a terminal cancer diagnosis and his teenage son. Kwan became frustrated when the FDA wouldn’t approve treatment that could help the patient’s tumor when the gel was available to them in the hospital.

Bailey (Chandra Wilson) performed a separate surgery on the patient and left him on the table, which is when Kwan secretly inserted the gel into the man without her knowledge. He confessed to Bailey who informed him that he committed a crime by putting something into a patient during a procedure without them knowing about it.

Kwan’s unclear future at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital comes after news broke that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are leaving the show at the end of the season. Grey’s Anatomy has faced plenty of cast shake-ups this season alone.

After the shocking death of Monica (Natalie Morales), Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) chose to take a sabbatical. It was subsequently reported that Scorsone’s break would last until the end of 2025 as the result of a cost-saving measure.

The show is already reducing the minimum guarantees for its veteran cast members to 14 out of the show’s 18 episodes per season. While some of Grey’s Anatomy‘s consistent stars will be missing for four episodes, Scorsone’s absence was doubled.

Showrunner Meg Marinis previously hinted that not every character would be safe this season.

“But even in the last two seasons with what you saw this year, we had to reduce the cast a little bit [because of industry-wide budget cuts], and everybody has very passionate feelings about their favorite characters,” Marinis told The Hollywood Reporter in May 2025. “But if we can get the writers upset then we know we’re doing it right. It’s not as satisfying a story if people aren’t upset when someone leaves. It’s supposed to make people upset and sad, so I’m sure there’ll be some arguments. But I’ve been persuaded before to change my mind on things.”

Raver, 57, meanwhile, reflected on the possibility she could be exiting Grey’s Anatomy shortly before news broke of the multiple cast departures.

“That’s the life of an actor,” Raver exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of her shocking exit, opening up about life working on a hit medical drama amid cast changes.

“When I was on 24, I always felt like being Jack Bauer’s girlfriend — I had a target on my back,” she added. (Raver portrayed TK on the sci-fi series from seasons tk to tk.)

Raver, who played Teddy since season 6, wanted to focus on the work she was doing on screen rather than worrying about her future employment.

“It’s really just about trying to be present and doing the work and following the amazing story lines that the writers are giving us,” she explained. “Especially with how now we’re always having these incredible cliffhangers. One never knows.”

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
