‘Good Morning America’ weekend co-anchor out: report

News RoomBy News RoomApril 2, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

A co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America” weekend edition is out after the Disney-owned network declined to renew her contract, according to a report.

Janai Norman, who joined “GMA Weekend” as co-anchor in 2022 after being hired by ABC News in 2016, is set to exit the program, the Status newsletter reported.

Her exact departure date is unclear.

An ABC News spokesperson declined to comment.

Norman joined ABC News in 2016 and has served as a correspondent and anchor across multiple programs.

She was named co-anchor of “Good Morning America” Weekend in 2022, joining Whit Johnson and Eva Pilgrim at the desk.

Before landing the weekend role, Norman was a New York–based correspondent and also anchored the early-morning programs “World News Now” and “America This Morning.”

She also hosted the “Pop News” segment on weekends and helped launch the second hour of the Saturday edition of “GMA” in 2019.

Prior to joining ABC News, Norman worked at local stations in Missouri, Oklahoma and Florida.

The “GMA” franchise has undergone a series of high-profile shakeups in recent years, particularly across its third-hour program and weekend lineup.

In 2023, the network installed DeMarco Morgan and Pilgrim as co-anchors of “GMA3: What You Need to Know” after the show was left without permanent hosts in the wake of the departures of Amy Robach and TJ Holmes.

The same reshuffle saw Gio Benitez added to the weekend desk, expanding the co-anchor lineup as the network sought to stabilize the broadcast.

ABC has also pushed the franchise beyond traditional TV, assigning its weekend anchors to streaming duties on ABC News Live as part of a broader shift toward digital platforms.
