Georgia Mom Faces Murder Charge After Allegedly Poisoning Her 2-Month-Old Baby to Death With Alcohol

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 1, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

A Georgia woman has been taken into custody after she allegedly poisoned her 2-month-old baby with a lethal dose of alcohol after intentionally giving the child a bottle filled with booze.

On October 14, 2025, emergency services reportedly responded to a call about an unresponsive infant. The child — who is referred to as Baby Nova in the arrest affidavit — was immediately taken to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a nearby pediatric medical facility, where he was pronounced dead, according to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta. The infant’s cause of death was not immediately clear to medical professionals or authorities, as there were no immediate signs of injury or other trauma. Seeking to find answers, an autopsy and a toxicology screening was performed on the child, which determined that the baby had alcohol in his system at the time of his death.

When questioned, the infant’s mother, Omayrilin Colon admitted that she prepared Baby Nova’s bottle that day, but she told police she hadn’t given her son anything but half of a bottle of formula. Medical reports proved, however, that the child’s blood-alcohol level was 0.179, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 for a full grown adult who is driving a vehicle, at the time of his death.

Medical officials also stated that the alcohol had been directly swallowed by the child and not simply passed from the 37-year-old mother to her baby through her breast milk. The type of alcohol consumed by the child was not specified, and Colon’s potential motive for the alleged killing remains unclear at the time of publication.

Following Baby Nova’s death, a neighbor called the situation “heartbreaking and maddening” in an interview with WSB.

“It’s not necessary to cause harm to anyone, let alone children,” the neighbor told the outlet.

Colon was arrested on Thursday, January 29, according to Law&Crime. On Friday, January 30, she was officially booked by the Atlanta Police Department and subsequently charged with one count of murder, per police records viewed by Us Weekly on Sunday, February 1. On Friday, Colon waived her right to appear in court for bond and a judge ruled she would not be granted bail.

If found guilty of murder, Colon could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Additionally, the mother was charged with one count of first-degree cruelty to children, which is defined by Georgia state law as a situation when a “parent, guardian, or other person supervising the welfare of or having immediate charge or custody” of a person under the age of 18 years old “willfully deprives the child of necessary sustenance to the extent that the child’s health or well-being is jeopardized,” or when that parent or guardian “maliciously” causes the minor “cruel or excessive physical or mental pain.”

If found guilty of cruelty to children in the first degree, she could receive anywhere from five to 20 years behind bars.

If you or someone you know is experiencing child abuse, call or text Child Help Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse, contact the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
