French hockey player banned for Olympics fight now facing legal trouble over another alleged ‘violent’ on-ice incident

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 18, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Pierre Crinon received Olympic punishment and now may face legal reprecussions.

The Team France hockey player has been summoned for a May 27 court date stemming from an incident during a November 2025 game, according to a translation of an article from Le Dauphine libere.

This comes on the heels of the French ice hockey federation banning him from the remainder of the tournament, as of Tuesday, after fighting with known Team Canada agitator Tom Wilson.

Crinon reportedly struck Angers goalie Matthew O’Connor in the face during a Magnus League game last November, as detailed by the French outlet.

He reportedly beat O’Connor “violently” during the game, resulting in a complaint being filed and a seven-game suspension levied against him.

The prosecutor first decided to “classify the procedure with follow-up,” according to the translation of the French outlet’s piece.

The issue had been dormant until Sunday when Crinon and Wilson battled during the third period of Canada’s 10-2 blowout win over France.

Wilson claimed Crinon delivered a “dirty hit” to a teammate, prompting his retaliation, and both received ejections.

Crinon missed France’s tournament-ending 5-1 loss to Germany on Tuesday and would have missed the remainder of the games had the French advanced.

2026 WINTER OLYMPICS

“It was kind of a dirty hit, and it’s a little bit different in the Olympics, how you have to go about it,” Wilson said Tuesday. “I obviously ended up with the same guy who had done it. Hockey is an emotional game. It’s a competitive game. And when you come together with a big guy, you kind of have to make the decision quickly and the gloves came off. Got thrown down to the ice, and then from there, it’s just kind of a bit of a melee.”

The Grenoble prosecutor released a statement Tuesday stating that Crinon’s actions during the Olympics led to further investigation.

The hearing reportedly is set for May 27 in Grenoble.

“Given the repetition of acts of violence by Pierre Crinon during the Olympics, the prosecutor notes that Mr. Crinon has failed to seize the opportunity of this ranking to stop all violent behavior,” the statement read, per the French publication. “Pierre Crinon is therefore prosecuted for the acts committed on November 30 for the “crime of deliberate violence that resulted in an ITT of less than 8 days […] with a weapon, by hitting the victim in the face with a reinforced glove.”
