Christy Carlson Romano had a not-so-regal encounter with Mandy Moore at the Princess Diaries wrap party.
“I did meet Mandy one time,” Romano, 42, told Page Six Radio on Tuesday, October 6, recalling how her Even Stevens costar Ty Hodges invited her to the Princess Diaries bash on behalf of his friend Erik Von Detten. “We end up there, it’s like the end of the night and I think I saw Heather Matarazzo … and I knew Heather from doing something for MTV in New York City before she was, like, hitting it big with this new feature film.”
Walking up to Matarazzo, 43, Romano asked whether she remembered their shared MTV past.
“Heather was, kind of, awkward and she was like, ‘Yeah, no, I don’t remember,’” Romano claimed. “Mandy was next to her, and Mandy kind of did this [fake laugh]. I was, like, so hurt by it. I was like, ‘Mandy’s a mean girl.’ I didn’t know what to make of it.”
Moore, 42, has not publicly addressed Romano’s account of their brief meeting. Us reached out for comment.
Von Detten, 44, Matarazzo and Moore costarred in 2001’s The Princess Diaries, all playing classmates of Princess Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway). Von Detten notably portrayed Mia’s crush Josh Bryant, while Matarazzo brought the teen princess’ BFF Lilly Moscovitz to life. Moore, for her part, played school bully Lana Thomas.
Out of the trio, only Matarazzo reunited with Hathaway, now 43, and Julie Andrews for Princess Diaries 2 in 2004. A third film is currently in development, with Moore hoping to make a cameo.
“I wasn’t a part of the second movie. I would find it hard to believe that my character would ever come back for a third film,” the This Is Us alum exclusively told Us in 2022. “I would totally be down because I had so much fun being a part of the first one.”
She continued, acknowledging, “I find it hard to wrap my head around the idea that Lana, unless she sort of turned her life around, I would not expect her to be a part of that story. I will watch it regardless.”
Moore further revealed that she is not in regular contact with her former costars, though she wishes them all the best.
“I wish I had their numbers and texted them on the regular!” Moore told Us, noting she did enjoy playing the mean girl in the flick. “[It’s] so much more fun than playing the good girl, I have to say.”
