Five teams interested in Stefon Diggs with ‘baggage’ hanging over free agency

News RoomBy News RoomJuly 14, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Stefon Diggs remains without a team just a few weeks before training camps open.

Per one NFL insider, that might not be the case for long.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared what he’s been hearing about interest around the league in Diggs during Monday’s episode of “NFL Live.”

“I’m hearing he’s going to have a market closer to training camp,” Fowler revealed. “I was told that at least five teams that need a wide receiver have been checking in…they’re gonna have to deal with the baggage and the headlines, they are what they are.”

Fowler mentioned the Commanders and Ravens as two teams that need receiving options.

The baggage, of course, refers to Diggs’ recent legal troubles. He’s currently involved in a civil case with a man accusing him of drugging and sexual assault in 2023. Diggs has denied the allegations. Christopher Griffith, the accuser, recently submitted over 100 pages of messages to the court, which he believes supports his allegations against the star receiver.

It’s not the first time Diggs has encountered trouble. Earlier this year, he was found not guilty on all counts of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery following accusations from his former live-in personal chef.

The Patriots released Diggs at the start of the new league year in March, bringing in AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to bolster their receiver room. In one season with New England, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards with four touchdowns in the regular season en route to the Super Bowl.

The decision to release Diggs was mostly motivated by money. Diggs had an additional $6 million that would’ve become fully guaranteed at the start of the new league year. His three-year, $63.5 million deal with New England was structured so his cap hit would be bigger in the second and third years.

Other wide receivers still available include Tyreek Hill, Deebo Samuel, and DeAndre Hopkins. Diggs recently claimed that there is no WR2 in the league “better than me” in a recent video on his YouTube channel.

Should a team agree with him, we could see Diggs in a new jersey sooner rather than later.
