Ex-NCAA basketball star Kerr Kriisa arrested by FBI in alleged multimillion-dollar fraud scheme

News RoomBy News RoomJuly 5, 20263 ViewsNo Comments

A former college basketball player allegedly connected to a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme was arrested by the FBI and is awaiting extradition.

Kerr Kriisa, who played six years in the NCAA for four different schools, was nabbed in Lexington, Kentucky, on Friday, Kentucky Sports Radio reported.

The 25-year-old Estonian native is accused of the fraudulent plot during his single year as a senior at West Virginia University in 2023-23.

Kriisa was being extradited from Kentucky to West Virginia ahead of his court hearing scheduled for this week, according to the outlet.

The exact allegations against Kriisa weren’t immediately known as his case is being handled by the federal government.

Kriisa was booked into Fayette County Detention Center after his arrest Friday evening, WKYT reported.

The college hoops journeyman played three seasons at Arizona, making the NCAA tournament twice with the Wildcats, including when they were named the top seed in 2022, before losing to Houston in the Sweet 16.

He transferred to West Virginia ahead of the 2023 season for his senior year, but transferred from the program after the Mountaineers’ longtime coach Bob Huggins resigned amid his DUI arrest in June 2023.

Kriisa transferred to the University of Kentucky, again losing in the Sweet 16, before he spent his final season at the University of Cincinnati. He finished his college career with 1,115 points in 127 games.

He was set to take part in “The Basketball Tournament,” a summer league for college graduates vying to win a $2 million prize, as a member of the University of Kentucky alumni team, “La Familia.”

Kriisa, was expected to make his TBT debut in a game against the Louisville team “The Ville” on July 18.

La Familia officials acknowledged Kriisa’s arrest but didn’t offer further details.

“We’re aware of the allegations regarding Kerr Kriisa. Kerr will not be competing with La Familia during the TBT Tournament. We will have no further comment,” the team wrote on X.

He was hoping to start his professional career back in his home nation of Estonia after the tournament until he was arrested, the WKYT reported.
