One basketball scribe might be headed to an NBA front office.
Tim Bontemps, who covers the NBA for ESPN, is in advanced talks for a position in the Hawks’ front office, according to a report from Front Office Sports.
No deal has been finalized between the two sides.
The role that Bontemps, who worked at The Post earlier in his career, would take with the Hawks would be on the basketball side, according to the report. It would make him a part of a front office led by Onsi Saleh, who was recently promoted to president of basketball operations.
Saleh took over as Hawks general manager last offseason and was signed to a long-term extension and promoted to president in May.
Bontemps covered the Nets for The Post from 2007-15 before making the move to the Washington Post and then to ESPN beginning in 2018.
In 2024, Bontemps was promoted to senior writer at the Worldwide Leader in 2024. He’s largely reported on Eastern Conference clubs, with a particular focus on the Celtics, 76ers, Nets, Raptors and Knicks.
The Hawks have had a busy offseason after turning things around during the 2025-26 season by reaching the postseason before getting knocked out in the first round by the Knicks.
Atlanta sent two second-round picks to the Thunder for guard Aaron Wiggins on Sunday night.
They hold the No. 8 pick in Tuesday’s NBA draft, which they acquired in a trade with the Pelicans last summer.
The Hawks would join the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and Portland Fire, and the NBA’s Wizards, Clippers, Thunder and Grizzlies as organizations that have hired media members for front office jobs.
