MLB insider Jim Bowden made an interesting comment about a potential Dodgers trade target during his appearance on the “D-Mac and Reiter Show” on Thursday.
“Absolutely I do,” Bowden said when asked whether he thinks the Reds could consider trading star shortstop Elly De La Cruz this offseason, per an X post from Doug McKain.
“This kind of trade makes sense for both the Dodgers and teams like the Reds and the [Washington] Nationals. The Dodgers need to be thinking about their next superstar player,” Bowden added.
De La Cruz is one of the most electrifying players in baseball and produced a .283 average, an .880 OPS, 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases for Cincinnati last season.
Dodgers fans would love having De La Cruz in their infield. That is, unless they’re also Lakers fans.
De La Cruz posted multiple clips celebrating the Warriors’ win over the Lakers to his Instagram Story.
Specifically, the 24-year-old was posting about when Steph Curry crossed up Luka Dončić, causing the Lakers star guard to fall.
De La Cruz has been outspoken about his Curry admiration, saying multiple times over the years that Curry is his favorite NBA player.
Cruz even said he sees similarities between his and Curry’s playing styles during an August 2024 interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer.
If De La Cruz ends up being traded to the Dodgers, Los Angeles sports fans will have to reckon with him rooting against the Lakers whenever they face Curry and Golden State.
