The Eagles’ social media team might want this one back.
In a training camp video posted on X on Wednesday, the Eagles unwittingly exposed their work-in-progress offense by showcasing Jalen Hurts throwing an interception on a pass over the middle.
An intended pass to the newly acquired Marquise “Hollywood” Brown turned into a pick for cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.
The video was supposed to highlight Mitchell’s interception, as the post was captioned “Right on Q.”
But it quickly went viral and was torn to pieces by fans. Notable voices around the NFL also chimed in, including former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho.
“5 million views in 4 hours,” the football analyst wrote. “I won’t guarantee somebody gets fired for this, but given my experience with the lengths people go to protect Jalen, somebody getting cussed out for sure and then may get fired.”
“Putting your starting QB on blast when there are already rumblings he [can’t] use the middle of the field is a choice,” former oddsmaker Todd Fuhrman added on X.
The video has amassed at least 8.3 million views in just over six hours.
The criticism of the video wasn’t limited to pundits, however.
“Your qb throwing a pick is the post? lol,” a user wrote on X.
“Putting out a video of your QB1 throwing a pick is wild,” another added.
A third said: “Let me just stare down this throw for 3 seconds and still throw in to triple coverage, sounds about right.”
“I mean, this is all time dumb,” someone else chimed in.
One X user even created a fake LinkedIn job posting for the Eagles social media manager, and under the “What you’ll do” section, the user added, “paint our players in a good light (e.g. hide the fact that Jalen Hurts is a running back.”
Some fans were quick to point out how much outrage and attention Hurts got for the interception, while Josh Allen also threw a pick during practice on Tuesday that didn’t even get 300,000 views.
There is still a lot to figure out offensively in Philadelphia.
Hurts has lacked a consistent voice on offense as he is under his sixth offensive coordinator in what will be his seventh NFL season. He now has Sean Mannion, who was previously the quarterbacks coach in Green Bay, as his new OC.
Last year, he threw six interceptions and finished 16th in the NFL with 3,224 passing yards. He struggled to be on the same page as head coach Nick Sirianni, offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and wide receiver A.J. Brown, who was traded to the Patriots before training camp.
Without Brown, Hurts has DeVonta Smith as his top option along with USC product Makai Lemon and former Packer Dontayvion Wicks.
Both Smith and Lemon are dealing with injuries.
Hurts will be looking to improve on the Eagles’ 11-6 season in 2025 that ended with a wild-card round loss to the 49ers.
