Did Steve Cohen join in the cheers for Pete Alonso’s 300th home run?

News RoomBy News RoomSeptember 17, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Steve Cohen may have found himself in some more hot water.

Beyond the Mets fans roaring for Pete Alonso’s 300th career home run at Citi Field on Tuesday to point out what they believe to be a franchise mistake in letting him go to the Orioles, someone has seemingly exposed the team owner as being in on the fun Tuesday night.

In a video posted to X, Cohen appears to stand up and clap for Alonso’s homer.

He moves his hands up, seemingly imploring people to stand, and then he began to clap.

An attempt by The Post to reach Cohen didn’t result in a response.

The video was posted Wednesday in response to a tweet from Cohen, who was commenting on a clip of a report stating David Stearns has not been around the team the last couple of days while on the podcast “Foul Territory.”

That prompted Cohen to comment on video posted on X, writing “That’s strange. I was in the dugout pre game on Monday with a guy that looked like Stearns. Was it an imposter?”

Alonso’s 300th homer helped push the game to extra innings.

An inside-the-park home run from Coby Mayo in the 11th inning went on to seal the Orioles’ 7-5 win.

Mets players weren’t naive when the crowd exploded inside their home stadium for a player not dressed in blue and orange. They knew why the fans reacted in such a way for the five-time All-Star.

“I don’t think they turned on us,” Soto said Wednesday before the Orioles swept the Mets. “I think they just cheered for him. He did everything for this city, for this organization, and I feel like they appreciated it and they were cheering for him.”

“When I went back to D.C. and I saw the fans and how they reacted when I was there and I still go in there and I see how they are still reacting for me every time I go down there, it’s pretty cool,” he added.

Bo Bichette admitted he had not “seen anything like that before”, but added it was likely a referendum on the Mets season.

“In a way, we probably did that to ourselves,” Bichette said.

Alonso signed a five-year contract worth $155 million from the Orioles during the winter.

The Mets, who were unwilling to sign the first baseman to a long-term contract, never extended an offer to their player of seven years.

Since letting go of Alonso along with Brandon Nimmo and Edwin Diaz among others, the Mets’ season has been anything but what was intended in their big signings of Luke Weaver, Freddy Peralta, Luis Robert Jr. and Bichette.

The Mets (69-83) host the Phillies for a four-game series over the weekend in what will be their third-to-last series of the season.
