Dave Coulier Addresses Concerns Over Weight Loss, Change in Appearance and Voice Amid Cancer Battle

Full House alum Dave Coulier addressed concerns about his recent weight loss and change in appearance as he continues to battle cancer.

“I haven’t posted in quite a while. The last time I did, some of you said I looked differently and I sound differently. I do,” Coulier, 66, told fans in a new video posted via Instagram on Thursday, May 7. “What you are seeing is the side effect of the extensive radiation that I went through for carcinoma in my throat, and I haven’t been able to eat solid food in months.”

Coulier initially announced that he’d been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in November 2024. By March 2025, he was determined to be cancer-free after undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy.

However, the actor discovered in December 2025 that he had HPV-related oropharyngeal tongue cancer, which can cause “a long-lasting sore throat, earaches, hoarseness, swollen lymph nodes, pain when swallowing, and unexplained weight loss,” according to the Centers for Disease Control. (Coulier’s oropharyngeal tongue cancer is completely unrelated to his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.)

This rare type of oral cancer is linked to the human papillomavirus (HPV), an infection that can turn into cancer if untreated. The American Cancer Society estimates that 53,000 people are diagnosed with oropharyngeal tongue cancer each year.

Coulier confirmed on Good Morning America in February that he was cancer-free once more as he underwent 35 radiation treatments.

“It’s been a roller-coaster ride for sure,” he told GMA at the time. “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been.”

In Thursday’s video message to fans, Coulier explained that he’d lost “45 pounds” during his recent radiation treatments.

“[The weight loss is] what you are seeing. And it’s affected my ability to speak,” he explained. “Some of you said that I sound differently. So yeah, you’re right on with what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing.”

Coulier shared some positive news, revealing his hair was “kind of growing back” after undergoing chemotherapy to treat his lymphoma in 2025.

“We got our PET scans back and the prognosis looks good for both the carcinoma in my throat and the lymphoma,” he added. “So, we’re very pleased with all of that … I wish good health to all of you!”

Coulier previously opened up to Today in December 2025 about the toll of going through back-to-back cancer treatments.

“It’s emotional. It’s psychologically draining,” Coulier acknowledged. “I’m going to get on the other side of this. The silver lining here is that I had cancer, which helped me detect my other cancer. It seems crazy to be making that statement, but it’s true.”

In December 2025, Coulier’s former Full House costar John Stamos described the actor as his “hero” and “No.1 inspiration” for showing such bravery.

“I was with him last weekend and he’s great,” Stamos, 62, said at the time. “He’s Dave and he’s beautiful. It sounds weird, but if anyone would have to go through this, he’s a good one because he can really inspire and talk to the world and show that with good will and love, you can make it through.”

Coulier has also received steadfast support from his wife of 12 years, Melissa Bring. (He is a father to a grown son, Luc Coulier, from his first marriage to Jayne Modean. The exes were together from 1990 to 1992.)
