Content creator spends night in ER after ‘gnarly’ injury from wild TBT brawl

News RoomBy News RoomJuly 28, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Maggie Gehring, a content creator for the Kansas alumni team JHX Hoops at The Basketball Tournament (TBT), said she spent the night in the emergency room for injuries she sustained in a on-court brawl after the team’s 64-59 victory over Wichita State’s AfterShocks on Monday.

“Since there’s already tons of videos circulating, might as well share what I’ve been up to,” Gehring wrote, including an X clip of the incident that was sent to her. “Spent last night in the ER.

“Suffered a pretty gnarly injury at the hands of a poor loser. Nose broken in several places + open fracture (meaning bone came through the skin) + deviated/ broken septum.

“I have to follow up with ENT and likely cosmetic surgeon soon to learn the full extent of my injuries.”

Gehring also shared a photo of a medic treating her while she held a towel to her face.

“Hey JHX…. finish it for me! 💰💰,” she wrote, referring to the bracket final Wednesday, when JHX Hoops will face Kentucky’s alumni team at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.

TBT is an open-invitation, single-elimination tournament with a $2 million cash prize played each summer in the U.S.

Videos of the incident showed Gehring get knocked to the ground after a hard hit when WSU’s Marcus Keene pushed KU’s Jacob Hanna after the semi-final clash at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita.

Hanna crashed into Gehring after being plowed over by Keene. Gehring’s nose was bleeding from the contact with Hanna, according to the Kansas City Star.

It’s unclear what exactly led to the incident.

Hanna and his Jayhawks teammates, Jamari Traylor, Zeke Mayo and Andrew Orr, appeared to have words with a WSU assistant coach, according to the KC Star.

There were nine total ejections after KU’s Mario Chalmers and WSU’s Rashard Kelly battled for a rebound in a second quarter scuffle.

Jayhawks players Jamari Traylor, Kevin Young and Tra-Deon Hollins were tossed for leaving the bench area.

The Shockers’ ‘QJ Peterson, Morris Udeze, James Woodard and Chaunce Jenkins were also ejected for leaving the bench.

Both teams had just six available players for the final half.
