CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten dismissed the narrative of a MAGA split Wednesday with polls showing President Trump is enjoying 100% support from his Republican base.
“Sometimes you look at the polling data and there are numbers that just jump off the screen at you – and this is one of those,” Enten said, as he highlighted an NBC News survey showing Trump’s 100% approval rating among Republicans who identify as “MAGA.”
“You don’t have to be a mathematical genius to know you can’t go higher than 100%,” Enten quipped.
“He is the 1972 Miami Dolphins,” the data expert marveled, comparing Trump to the only NFL team to ever have a perfect, undefeated season.
The polling comes as an unfounded narrative has emerged claiming “Make America Great Again” Republicans – the president’s most ardent supporters – are fracturing over the Iran war, the release of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and immigration.
Enten noted there are “some Republicans” who disapprove of Trump but they are not part of the MAGA movement.
“The bottom line is this: if you are a member of MAGA, you approve of Donald Trump,” he declared.
Further dispelling the MAGA split narrative, Enten pointed out that the president’s base of support within the GOP is “not shrinking” but actually “slightly larger” than it was in 2024.
The poll showing Trump’s perfect level of support also found that 30% of Americans currently identify MAGA, up from 28% in November 2024.
“The theme of this segment is ‘Tucker Carlson Be Darned,’” Enten said, referring to the conservative commentator who has been outspoken in his opposition to the Iran war – so much so that Trump recently declared, “He’s not MAGA.”
“The bottom line is that the MAGA base within the GOP is not shrinking … If anything, it is slightly larger than it was back in 2024,” the CNN analyst explained.
The polling, according to Enten, is indicative of just “how strong Donald Trump’s grip is on that MAGA base” is.
