While Christian McCaffrey was meeting with the media after Sunday’s 36-30 win against the Arizona Cardinals, he was seen sporting a new look.
That should be temporary, at least.
McCaffrey took the podium in his camo shirt and white hat with a camo brim but was also seen standing there with a busted lip.
On top of having a fat lip, McCaffrey also added that he left the game with a sore throat after he got hit running a “burst route” in the middle of the game.
McCaffrey’s new look and voice summed up the 49ers game perfectly. It was a nice win to move them to first place in the NFC West, with a 3-0 record. But it didn’t come easy.
An all-too-familiar foe struck the 49ers again as the team had two star players fall to the injury bug.
Top free agent acquisition Mike Evans was carted off the field during the second quarter and remained out for the game due to a rib injury.
San Francisco also lost all-pro left tackle Trent Williams during the third quarter, after he was carted off for a neck injury, described as a “stinger.”
Williams was spotted on the 49ers sideline but never returned to play in the game.
McCaffrey had one of his strongest performances of the season for San Francisco, rushing the ball 15 times for 75 yards and a touchdown that came in the second quarter.
In the passing game, he was also effective, catching four balls for 60 yards.
The team was ultimately led by starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who has put together three strong performances to begin the season, as he completed 15 of 27 passes for 297 yards and threw four touchdowns.
It was Purdy’s final touchdown that might’ve mattered most to the 49ers.
With 1:36 left in the game, he floated a 20-yard pass to George Kittle to give San Francisco a 35-27 lead. They would hold on for a six-point victory.
