Celebrities Who Have Been Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease: Michael J. Fox, Tom Dumont and More

Michael J. Fox, No Doubt’s Tom Dumont and more celebrities have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over the years.

Parkinson’s is a nervous system disorder that worsens in the body over time, per the Mayo Clinic. While every person’s battle with Parkinson’s can look different. Symptoms include tremors, stiffness, slowing of movement, trouble balancing, slurring speech and more.

There is no cure for Parkinson’s, but medication can help a patient manage their symptoms.

Michael J. Fox

Fox was diagnosed with the condition in 1991 at age 29. In addition to acting, Fox became an advocate for the disease and established his Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in 2000.

Brian Grant

Grant shared in 2009 that he was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease four years prior. The NBA player retired from the sport one year after his diagnosis due to lingering injuries.

Billy Connolly

In 2013, Connolly was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer. While the comedian was deemed cancer-free, his battle with Parkinson’s has continued. He retired from stand-up in 2018 due to his symptoms.

Linda Ronstadt

Ronstadt was initially diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013. The legendary musician revealed that the condition took away her ability to sing. However, she later learned she was suffering from the rare brain disorder progressive supranuclear palsy, which has similar symptoms to Parkinson’s.

Alan Alda

Alda was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015, but revealed his condition three years later. Following his diagnosis, Alda has continued to act and has included his tremors in some of his performances.

Neil Diamond

Diamond announced he was retiring from touring after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2018. While the musician stopped performing publicly, he has raised awareness for the disease.

Glenn Tipton

In 2018, Tipton revealed that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s a decade earlier. The Judas Priest guitarist decided to go public with his condition after his symptoms forced him to retire from touring.

Rachel Reid

The Heated Rivalry author was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in August 2023. Reid was previously on a waitlist for care in her area, but following the success of the TV series based on her romance novels, an expert reached out to the writer for her care options. In a February 2026 interview with The New York Times, Reid confessed that her Parkinson’s symptoms were part of the reason for the delay of her next book.

Brett Favre

Favre revealed in September 2024 that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The following year, the Hall of Fame quarterback shared in an interview with TMZ Sports that his condition had “progressed a little faster” than he hoped.

Tom Dumont

In 2026, Dumont announced that he had been previously diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease. The No Doubt guitarist shared he still planned to perform with the rock band as his symptoms haven’t affected his ability to play music.

Maurice White

The Earth, Wind & Fire founder was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the late ‘80s. Symptoms from the disease led to White’s retirement from performing in 1994, but he continued to manage the soul group. White died in February 2016 due to complications from Parkinson’s.

Muhammad Ali

The legendary boxer received his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 1984 at age 42. Ali teamed up with Fox to raise awareness for the disease. The athlete battled the condition for more than three decades before his death in June 2016. He was 74.

Richard Lewis

The comedian was diagnosed with Parkinson’s years before he publicly revealed his condition in April 2023. Lewis’ symptoms included walking stiffly and shuffling his feet. He ended up retiring from stand-up amid his battle with Parkinson’s, but continued to appear on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Lewis died in February 2024 at age 76.

Ozzy Osbourne

In 2020, the rock star announced he had been battling Parkinson’s for the past year. Osbourne underwent multiple treatment methods and surgeries before his death in July 2025. He was 76.
