Cazzie David Recalls Using MDMA Therapy for ‘Clarity’ on Long-Term Romance: ‘I Tripped Out’

News RoomBy News RoomMarch 25, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Cazzie David once used MDMA therapy to find “clarity” on a long-term relationship giving her doubts.

“I was recommended to do this MDMA journey with my therapist. And she was like, ‘It helps people make choices,’” Cazzie, daughter of comedian Larry David and film producer Laurie David, said on the Tuesday, March 24, episode of Amanda Hirsch’s “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast.

“It helps you, like, come into your, like, spirituality and like, who you are at your core,” Cazzie, 31, continued. “And I was like, ‘OK.’”

Cazzie admitted she had “done cocaine” in the past and “didn’t feel anything,” so she expected her experience with MDMA to be the same.

“And if a therapist is giving it to me, it can’t be that crazy. You know, if anything, I thought I would have to fake having some kind of grand insight to not make her feel bad,” Cazzie joked.

The No One Asked for This author said her therapist “prepped” her by explaining that some people want to “talk a lot” or hold her hand during the session, which Cazzie had insisted she was not going to do.

“Anyways, we did it, and I like tripped out,” Cazzie continued, explaining that the session happened at her house. “I ended up in her lap … holding both hands. She was like, ‘I have to go to the bathroom.’ I was like, ‘No, you’re not allowed to go to the bathroom. No, no, no, you can’t leave.’”

Though Cazzie said she now has a “hard time” looking at her therapist because she’s “embarrassed,” she realized that the experience did “really help” her.

“You could just really, like, if you really asked yourself a question, you could kind of see the paths, and it would give you a certain feeling that you needed in order to have an answer,” Cazzie shared, noting that she found herself questioning whether or not she wanted to continue in her long-term relationship at the time.

“It was like, about my true fear of being in my 30s and like, what I want to do with this long-term relationship or in all of these different things. … It was just crazy,” she concluded.

Prescribed MDMA (3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), commonly known as ecstasy or molly, is a mild psychedelic drug often used in psychotherapy to treat PTSD and other mental health conditions. Other celebrities have opened up about their experiences with this type of therapy, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Lorde.

“I had truly the most horrific stage fright, really since I was like 5, doing community theater,” Lorde, 29, said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in July 2025, adding that MDMA therapy “truly changed the game.”

Meanwhile, Paltrow, 53, revealed during a March 2025 episode of her “Goop” podcast that MDMA therapy helped improve her relationship with her mother, Blythe Danner.
