Say it ain’t so.

Popular eatery Habanero Mexican Grill in Newbury Park has closed after 10 years, the business announced in a social media post this weekend.

“This restaurant has always been more than a place to grab a meal or a drink. It’s been a gathering place for our community, where familiar faces brightened our days, conversations became friendships, and so many of you stood by us through every season,” the post read.

“To everyone who walk through our doors, ordered your favorite dish, shared your stories, and made this place feel like home: thank you. Your kindness, loyalty, and support have meat everything to us.”

The business first opened at the Thousand Oaks Marketplace, 520 N. Ventu Park Road in February 2017.

Fans reacted to the sudden closure on Instagram, remembering the restauarant for its fresh margaritas and delicious ceviche.

“Nooooooo 😢 ONLY good Mexican place in Newbury!!” on commenter wrote.

“What a loss to our community. Why can we not keep good places going?” another commenter said.

“This has become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants over the past couple years, can’t find better in NP, this is really sad,” a third commenter wrote.

The restaurant did not give a reason for their closure, and their website has already gone offline.

Habanero isn’t the only eatery in the Canejo Valley to announce its closure in recent weeks.

Last week, health food restaurant All Good Eats & Drinks in Thousand Oaks announced its last day of operation will be October 31. The restaurant posted a message on the their door saying all equipment is for sale.

Just days before, Thousand Oaks’ Historia Bakery Cafe announced that it would be closing on November 29 after seven years.

“As we prepare for our final chapter, EVERYTHING MUST GO! From our unique décor and collectibles to furniture and the special treasures throughout the café, we’re hoping these pieces will find new homes with the people who helped make Historia what it is,” the business said.
