Brooks Koepka rips his own ‘pathetic’ performance since rejoining PGA Tour

News RoomBy News RoomAugust 9, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

Brooks Koepka didn’t hold back on Sunday as he assessed his first season back on the PGA Tour, following a T68 finish at this week’s Wyndham Championship in North Carolina.

Koepka finished outside the top-70 in the FedEx Cup point standings, which was needed to play in next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship — the first leg of the playoffs — and the 36-year-old hasn’t really put up an effort good enough to contend for a title.

All of it led a frustrated Koepka to bash himself on Sunday.

“Yeah, pretty disappointed,” Koepka told reporters. “I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through. Zero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that’s very pathetic, disappointing. Just need to go home and completely reevaluate everything.”

Koepka made 10 of 15 cuts and had six top-25 finishes in his first season since returning from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour in January.

His best finish came in March when he tied for ninth in the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, but it would be his only top-10 finish in his 15 starts this year.

Koepka said following Sunday’s final round of the Wyndham Championship that he will play in several tournaments on the DP World Tour later in the year and that he has been happy with his decision to return to the PGA Tour.

“It’s been great,” he said. “Honestly, I’ve loved it. I feel fantastic. The reception’s been great. Overall happiness is 10 out of 10 and just excited.”

Koepka has been the biggest name to defect from LIV Golf back to the PGA Tour, doing so as part of the Returning Member Program.

As part of it, Koepka agreed to forfeit any player equity shares for the next five years, he was ineligible to receive the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus program this season and he agreed to donate $5 million to charity.

Koepka’s decision to leave LIV Golf, which held an event in New Jersey at Trump National Bedminster this week, was a major story in the golf world and it led to questions whether any of the other big names would follow.

The Florida native was the only one to take advantage of the Returning Member Program.
