The Bills will be without Ed Oliver for a while.
The star defensive tackle was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after tearing his biceps during Buffalo’s win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Oliver, 27, will undergo surgery and is “expected to miss multiple months,” according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.
Wolfe added that the Bills and Oliver are “holding out hope he can return if Buffalo makes a lengthy playoff run.”
In a post on Instagram on Monday, Oliver expressed optimism that he could be back on the field if the Bills go far in the postseason, writing “I’ll be back just in time to play for it all 💍✍🏽,” on his story.
“Tough loss. Ed’s a really good player. It’s an opportunity for someone else to step up here,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said.
The Oliver injury is a major blow to a Bills team that is looking to get over the hump to make the Super Bowl.
Oliver has been a key cog in Buffalo’s defensive line since being selected ninth overall by the franchise in the 2019 NFL Draft.
In seven NFL seasons, Oliver has recorded 243 tackles and 30 sacks.

He recorded a sack in all three games he played this season. Earlier this year, Oliver missed four games with an ankle injury.
“It’s unfortunate. He’s playing well when he was playing, he was impacting games at a high level. … But like always, we’ll adjust, we’ll move on,” Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich said Monday. “I feel terrible for him, but he’ll be back, he’ll be ready to roll whenever that time is.”
