Bill Belichick gets candid about Jordon Hudson’s North Carolina role— and shuts down one ‘ridiculous’ notion

Bill Belichick seems to be getting the hang of things on the field at UNC, and now it seems he’s trying to gain control off the field over the narrative around his 25-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, and her perceived influence on the football program.

Belichick, 74, called the ongoing story that Hudson was trying to assert any control over the Tar Heels football team “so ridiculous” during a newly published interview with the Wall Street Journal.

“The way the story was picked up was a long way from that,” he told the outlet. “Like, ‘She’s trying to be the general manager of the team,’ and it’s so ridiculous.”

Belichick also reaffirmed the position that Hudson has no official role in the football program.

Hudson and Belichick’s relationship has been at the center of ongoing interest since it first became public in 2024 and has only gained notoriety as Hudson’s involvement in the eight-time Super Bowl champion’s life has become ever more present.

After various outlets reported that Belichick had asked the University of North Carolina’s communications staff to copy Hudson on emails to him, Belichick claimed that led to a misunderstanding of what she does for him.

Belichick said he had asked for that because he had “a lot of other things going on” when he was hired in December 2024 as UNC’s new football coach.

“I sent an email when I got here and I said, Can you please forward any requests to Jordon about my personal appearances so that I can work and coordinate them outside the university?” Belichick told the WSJ. “Didn’t have anything to do with the university. Well, that was leaked as released as ‘Jordon’s involved in every single thing that I do and she’s copied on every email.’ That’s just a flat-out lie.”

The comments to the Wall Street Journal were some of the most substantive that Belichick has made about the nature of Hudson’s involvement in certain aspects of his life.

Still, he didn’t have an answer to questions about the 25-year-old’s public records requests to UNC for any communications between reporters and employees of the university involving conversations about herself and Belichick.

Belichick said he had not seen the requests and told the WSJ he didn’t “want to speak for her.”

“I think if you look at her requests, you would probably find that she was asking for things that had already been sent,” Belichick added.

While headlines have not followed the couple this season the way they did last year, Belichick’s second season in Chapel Hill has gotten off to a bumpy start off the field.

The Tar Heels have won their first two games of the year, which included defeating the same TCU team that decimated UNC in its first game last season. But the football program is facing an internal probe that started with now-former general manager Michael Lombardi and has extended to allegations of drug use and sex within the program. Defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, the head coach’s son, has been on indefinite medical leave since August.

A report in The Atlantic published Wednesday morning seemingly questioned the autonomy of the lawyers leading the internal investigation in Belichick’s football program.

The outlet noted that lawyers “engaged by the university” to investigate the program, Nate Huff and McNair Nichols, are the focus of whistleblower complaints related to another investigation into UNC’s School of Civic Life and Leadership.
