In one of the last games of the Round of 32, Australia returns from Group D to the knockout stage and faces Egypt in the early window on Friday.

Australia comes into this tilt as a +230 underdog on the three-way moneyline, while the Pharaohs are favorites with +150 odds on BetRivers.

It’s a big spot for both squads as Egypt has played even with two of its three opponents in this tournament, drawing with Belgium and Iran in Group G.

Meanwhile, Australia lost to the Americans 2-0, defeated Turkey, and drew against Paraguay in a scoreless affair.

Egypt is in the midst of its best World Cup run in history, making it to the knockout round and going unbeaten while scoring five goals in three games, which matches their history in seven previous World Cup matches.

Australia has played pretty poorly in their last two matches, accumulating just 0.9 expected goals (xG) in their last two games combined.

That’s just not going to cut it against an Egyptian squad that has Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush leading the way for them.

The Aussies will look to defend deep, be disciplined, and hope to get things going on the counterattack, something that didn’t really work against the Americans.

Meanwhile, the Pharaohs will be opportunistic in the midfield, finding moments to pounce and pass the ball around Australia to create openings and pounce.

I’m bullish on Egypt to come away victorious here; they are a fine bet to advance even as favorites, coming in at

I do like Marmoush’s odds to get one to the back of the net (+330, DraftKings), considering he’s pretty overdue in this tournament with a 0.83 xG mark in this tournament.

Target Egypt to advance and Marmoush to score on Friday afternoon.

PREDICTION: Egypt to advance (-150, FanDuel) | Omar Marmoush to score (+330, DraftKings)
