An Arizona woman was arrested after she allegedly opened fire on a nail salon and punched an employee when she grew upset over a $15 charge.
Essence Mire was taken into custody following the alleged attack at a nail salon in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday, August 30.
Police officers responded to the nail salon around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday after they received a report that a shooting took place at a local business, which was located near a strip mall.
An investigation was launched into the matter, and police learned that Mire, 26, became upset about the price of a service at the establishment, authorities confirmed to Us. The defendant then allegedly assaulted an employee before she left the salon and reportedly “fired a single shot through the front door.”
Mire then allegedly fled the scene, but was located shortly after by officers. It’s not currently clear how officers were able to track her down or how long she was on the run before she was arrested.
While police did not confirm the name of the salon, AZ Family reported that the incident took place at Element Nail Bar.
Mire was allegedly upset about a $15 charge to repair a broken nail, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
She was accused of punching an employee in the face before she exited the building and fired one shot at the salon from outside. The bullet caused damage to the building, including its glass doors being shattered.
Police said that about 18 people were inside the business at the time of the shooting. Many of those inside ran to the back of the building or hid, and police said that one reported being physically injured.
Several of the people inside the nail salon recorded what happened on their cellphones, according to the outlet.
Once Mire was located, the woman allegedly told police that she attacked the business in an attempt to intimidate the salon workers so that they would repair her nail for free.
Following the incident, Mire was hit with several charges including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm at a nonresidence, discharging a firearm within the city limits and assault. Her bond was set at $100,000.
It is not currently clear if Mire has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest. The Phoenix Police Department has no additional updates to share when contacted by Us about the case.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
