Apple fans slam leaked design of new iPhone Ultra: ‘The worst of both worlds’

News RoomBy News RoomMay 1, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

The newest iPhone offering is getting an ugly reception.

Leaked footage of a supposed “dummy model” for the long-rumored iPhone fold has sparked aesthetic upset.

The latest video is courtesy of the YouTube channel Max Tech, where content creator Vadim Yuryev wields a squat device believed to be the forthcoming iPhone Fold, tentatively titled iPhone Ultra, as well as a more standard-size device he claims is the iPhone 18 prototype.

Celebrating his own track record, Yuryev insists that these prototypes are the real deal; the dummies he showcased last year were, in his words, “spot-on” representations of the iPhone 17 series.

Experts say that while the evidence is promising, it is not a guarantee of authenticity.

From the video, the foldable appears to take a book-style approach — opening horizontally into a tablet-like screen — with a chunky frame and a dual-lens camera bump on the back.

Yuryev’s dummy shows an external camera panel with two lenses that extend across the phone’s rear.

According to his measurements, the phone is 11mm thick when folded, 5.5mm when opened. By these standards, the Ultra is a touch thinner than the iPhone Air, which clocks in at 5.64mm.

Commentors noted what could be a make-or-break miss: the apparent absence of MagSafe — Apple’s magnetic snap-on system, first rolled out with the iPhone 12, that lets chargers, wallets, and other accessories click satisfyingly into place.

“No MagSafe is a dealbreaker. And no faceID is borderline… I’m definitely sitting this one out,” said one commentator.

Consumers had more thoughts, few of them encouraging.

“Based on this dummy model alone, I feel like it’s the worst of both worlds,” said one Reddit poster

“Don’t see the point of phones like this. You want a big screen? Get an iPad,” added a second.

“With ULTRA prices,” lamented a third, noting the projected $2,000 price tag of the foldable phone.

“It’s hard to see the market here. You are giving up most everything iPhone has added in the last 5 years for something not quite as nice as an iPad mini,” stated one fed-up Apple fan on a Mac forum.

Perhaps the most brief and damning summation of the model: “it looks like ass.”

Quite.

As previously reported by The Post, Apple has already hit unexpected snags while testing its first-ever foldable, with engineers wrestling with issues that insiders say are “more complex” and time-consuming than expected.

The Fold is slated for a September debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

That timing would put Apple years behind rivals like Samsung and Google, which have been churning out foldables since 2019 — though not without their own crease-related headaches.

Apple, for its part, is betting it can best its competitors through improved design.

The company reportedly believes it has cracked some of the biggest foldable flaws, including durability, screen quality, and that dreaded visible crease.

It’s also banking on the plebeian prohibitive price tag to push the iPhone into even more premium… or, if you will…Ultra territory.
