LIV Golf stars making fallback plans with league in financial peril

News RoomBy News RoomApril 28, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

Some LIV golfers are preparing for the end of the breakaway league.

Today’s Golfer reported Tuesday that “several” players have “sounded out the DP World Tour” with LIV Golf in financial turmoil.

The league is currently in limbo with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund reportedly set to pull its monetary commitments.

The hope is that the DP World Tour would adopt a “returning member program” for ex-LIV players similar to the one Brook Koepka is under with the PGA Tour.

This week, DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings wouldn’t rule out the possibility of welcoming back those who defected to LIV, according to the outlet

“At the moment, we’re in the mode of just listening because we don’t know any more than anyone else does,” Kinnings said, via Today’s Golfer. “We’ll make sure that we’re fully informed before we make the decisions that we need to do. … If people work within the rules — my only job is to make sure we benefit the tour as a whole.”

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp indicated last week that he’s open to other LIV players potentially following in Koepka’s path.

“Brooks came back on to the Tour because he made a phone call and said, ‘Look, I’m out of my contract, I’m ready to come back,’ so we’re thinking about it,” Rolapp said on “The Pat McAfee Show” last Monday.

“We’ll react when we have an opportunity to react, but right now, we’re focused on making the PGA Tour better. But listen, I’ve said it publicly and I’ll say it again: I’m interested in whatever makes the PGA Tour better. That’s what my job is. That’s what I’m interested in doing. That has no limit. That’s how I’ll focus on it.”

The latest news comes on the same day the state of Louisiana confirmed to multiple outlets that the league will postpone LIV Golf Louisiana, which was scheduled for late June at Bayou Oaks at City Park in New Orleans, until it restructures its finances and secures additional funding.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said earlier this month that the league has funding for only the 2026 season.

The next LIV tournament will take place the second weekend of May at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C.
