Italy could be this year’s surprise team if its influx of major league talent, especially on the pitching side, is enough to push past Mexico for second place in Pool B. With Aaron Nola fronting what should be Italy’s best pitching staff ever at the tournament and a lineup led by Vinnie Pasquantino and Jac Caglianone, the roster has the depth to make a legitimate run at the quarterfinals.
Great Britain’s tournament would count as a success if it could come away with two wins in Pool B. With Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Harry Ford leading the way, beating Brazil or Italy would mark clear progress after a competitive showing in 2023. They opened up the tournament receiving an 8-2 thrashing by Mexico.
