‘Today’ Host Savannah Guthrie’s 84-Year-Old Mom Reported Missing in Arizona, Family Speaks Out

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 2, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

UPDATE: 2/2/26 at 6:40 a.m. ET — Savannah Guthrie’s family has spoken out to confirm that the Today show co-anchor’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is missing.

“We can confirm this is a missing persons case, and the family is working closely with local law enforcement,” the Guthrie family said in a statement to NBC News on Monday, February 2, adding that they are grateful for “the outreach, thoughts and prayers” they have received.

The family urged anyone who might have relevant information regarding Nancy’s disappearance to contact the authorities.

Original story:

The mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is missing in Arizona.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed during a press conference on Sunday, February 1, that Nancy Guthrie, 84, had been reported missing.

The department also posted a missing person report via X on Sunday, describing Nancy as a “vulnerable adult.” She was last seen on the evening of Friday, January 31, “at her residence” in Arizona’s Catalina Foothills area. The report added that it is “unknown what clothing she may be wearing.”

Us Weekly has reached out to a representative for Savannah for comment.

A report published by local news station KOLD included details provided by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who said that a Guthrie family member had “called 911 around noon” on Sunday to report her missing.

KOLD also stated that Nanos said “there were concerning circumstances found at the home and that homicide detectives are also investigating.”

Nanos told the outlet that foul play had not been ruled out. However, the situation “is being treated as a search and rescue” with authorities scanning “air and by ground.”

The missing person report stated that Nancy is 5-foot-5 and 150 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes. She reportedly suffers from “some physical ailments, but does not have cognitive issues,” per information provided by the Guthrie family.

Nancy served as a guest star on the Today show in November 2025 when Savannah, 54, returned to her hometown and publicly reunited with her mother and sister, Annie, at a local Mexican restaurant. During the episode, the trio was served tequila in teacups to recreate a bygone era where women were not able to consume alcohol in public.

The segment showed Nancy beaming at Savannah as the family clinked their teacups. “I love being home,” Savannah told Nancy at the time.

Savannah also spoke about Nancy during a 2023 episode of Today when the morning TV show ran a segment titled “Lessons Learned From Moms.” Savannah acknowledged her mom on Today on Nancy’s 80th birthday in 2022 as well.

In May 2025, Savannah showed her love for Nancy via Instagram, sharing a throwback photo of herself as a child while standing by her mom’s side to celebrate Mother’s Day that year. “I love you, mama,” she captioned the photo.

Prior to becoming a household name, Savannah was reluctant to share her life with the world. Admitting during a September 2025 episode of Jason Kennedy’s eponymous podcast that she was nervous to join Today as an anchor after working for nearly two decades as a journalist, Savannah said she wasn’t certain about taking on a role to replace former host Ann Curry.

“I could see it all clearly [that I’m] going to be a flash in the pan,” Savannah recalled of her internal monologue at the time. “I’m going to be that transitional figure that gets kicked to the side. They’re going to throw me in there, I’ll totally be rejected internally and externally, and then I’ll lose everything. I [was] so happy where I am, so I really wasn’t sure. I was terrified.”
