9-1-1: Nashville’s Hunter McVey Hints We ‘Should Be Worried for Everybody’ on the Show: ‘No One’s Safe’ (Exclusive)

9-1-1: Nashville has been hinting at potential death and destruction in season 2 — and not even the main characters are in the clear.

“[The new case] affects every single character,” Hunter McVey exclusively told Us. “You should be worried for everybody. No one’s safe.”

McVey, 27, who plays Blue, admitted he is “a little bit” worried about his fate.

“It would be too ambitious that I think he’s going to be safe enough because I find 20 different surprises every time I pick up a new script,” he shared. “So I just roll with it and love reading them for the first time. Then we get to talk them through and read them through with the cast and writers and then make some changes.”

McVey normally has felt “fairly safe,” adding, “But they throw us into a lot every single script I get.”

Set in the Tennessee capital, 9-1-1: Nashville follows the lives of emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, as they face life-threatening situations. The obstacles aren’t just in their work lives but outside of the job as well.

At the center of the show is Chris O’Donnell‘s Don, who runs a team of emergency responders with his son, Ryan (Michael Provost), when he crosses paths with Blue (McVey) a.k.a. his secret son with Dixie (LeAnn Rimes), who has ulterior motives when convincing him to join the Hart family. Don’s wife, Blythe (Jessica Capshaw), meanwhile, quickly picks up on Dixie’s plan.

“There’s a lot of changes between season 2 and season 1 — and all good changes. When I got the job for season 1, I got the role four or five days before they started filming and so it was obviously just getting thrown into the fire,” McVey recalled. “Then eight months straight of work and I didn’t even have a second to process what I was doing.”

McVey called the experience a “fever dream.”

“Season 2, we have not only a change in dynamic with Ryan [Phillippe] coming in as Rogue and switching the dynamic a little bit into a more mysterious and interesting in my point of view side of things,” he continued. “But there is definitely a different pace and a different energy on set and you can feel it.”

The actor said: “Everybody has a little bit more stable footing. They had a little bit more time to prepare in terms of what we’re doing this year, our locations, working in Nashville for the second time as opposed to the first time and the connections with my castmates, the crew and production have only gotten stronger.”

While filming the hit ABC series, McVey has also found time to work on his business, Bring Your Nutrition, which is set to launch a non-toxic food storage container line made from platinum silicone.

“The vulcanization process of that silicon allows these containers to heat up food in the microwave or the oven without leaching any toxins or microplastics into your food. Most Americans are consuming about a credit card worth of microplastics every single week and from many different sources,” he explained to Us. “Now, we’re finding that those microplastics are endocrine disruptors and we’re seeing in younger and younger people all of these issues — diseases, cancers, neurological disorders and problems — stemming from a lot of these microplastics.”

He added: “They’re meal containers that you can travel with and store your food in. The lid seal is perfect and keeps everything in there. You can bring them to the gym and they don’t break or they’re not heavy like glass. Then you’re not getting any toxins or any microplastics in your food when you heat them up in the microwave or in the oven up to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.”

McVey is proud of the career milestone, which comes as he has balanced acting with other responsibilities. “I’m focusing on doing the best job that I can with 9-1-1: Nashville, with being the best husband I can and with running the businesses the best I can,” he said.

Bring Your Nutrition drops November 2, with early access available on November 1.

9-1-1: Nashville airs on ABC Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
