This is a big week for Netflix movies, with the premiere of Happy Gilmore 2 on July 25 and the streaming debut of Sony’s Until Dawn on July 24.
Rather than wait until the end of the week, the Watch With Us team has some recommendations for the three popular Netflix movies you can watch right now.
One of our picks is the original Happy Gilmore, which is just a year shy of its 30th anniversary. This film is leaving Netflix on July 31, so catch it while you can.
Our remaining choices include an action comedy sequel and an inventive horror film that’s tearing up Netflix’s movie chart.
‘Happy Gilmore’ (1996)
Adam Sandler‘s title character in Happy Gilmore couldn’t make it as a hockey player, but it turns out that golf is the sport that he’s best suited for. To save the home of his grandmother (Frances Bay), Happy joins the PGA tour and brings his unorthodox hockey mentality with him. Happy also makes an enemy out of Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), a pro golfer who is desperate to drive him from the game.
When Happy’s temper threatens to get him expelled from the tour, Virginia Venit (Julie Bowen) steps in to help him control his emotions. However, Shooter isn’t above sabotaging Happy’s personal and professional lives just to win the biggest tournament of the year.
Happy Gilmore is streaming on Netflix.
‘Ride Along 2’ (2016)
Despite the best efforts of Officer Ben Barker (Kevin Hart) in the original Ride Along, his future brother-in-law, Detective James Payton (Ice Cube), still doesn’t like him very much. It’s hard to blame James, since Ben disrupts an operation at the beginning of Ride Along 2 that ends with James’ partner, Detective Mayfield (Tyrese Gibson), getting injured.
Ben’s insistence on proving himself to James leads them to reunite on a case to bring down a crime lord, Antonio Pope (Benjamin Bratt). Unfortunately for James, Ben may manage to get both of them killed in the process.
Ride Along 2 is streaming on Netflix.
‘The Cursed’ (2021)
Writer and director Sean Ellis found fresh blood in the werewolf genre in The Cursed. In late 19th-century France, Seamus Laurent (Alistair Petrie) and his men attack a Romani tribe over a land dispute and slaughter innocent people. Yet from beyond the grave, the Romani will have their revenge through a werewolf curse that turns its victims into dangerous creatures.
John McBride (Boyd Holbrook) has first-hand experience with this Romani curse. But once the events have been set in motion, there may not be any way to save the townspeople from this supernatural assault. And Seamus’ family may have to pay the ultimate price for his sins.
The Cursed is streaming on Netflix.
