What it will take to land Brewers Freddy Peralta — and how Mets could be primed to get ace

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 10, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

It’s going to take a hefty price tag to acquire Freddy Peralta.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon wrote Saturday that the Brewers will “ideally” want a “young, major-league ready replacement” in exchange for their ace right-hander.

The pair cited the Mets as the team in the “best position” to match Milwaukee’s ask for Peralta with young pitchers like Brandon Sproat, Jonah Tong and Christian Scott to dangle.

They added that the pitching-needy Amazin’s may be able to trade for Peralta “without offering top prospect Nolan McLean.”

Earlier this week, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported that the Yankees “are looking at” Peralta after missing out on Edward Cabrera, who was traded from the Marlins to the Cubs.

Both New York baseball clubs checked in with the Brewers about the right-hander in December, according to The Post’s Joel Sherman.

After the Brewers were swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS, The Athletic reported that the team was expected to “at least field offers” for Peralta, who has one year, $8 million remaining on his contract before hitting free agency after this season.

The two-time All-Star posted a career-best 2.70 ERA with 204 strikeouts over 176 2/3 innings, winning a National League-high 17 games in 2025.

Over his eight-year MLB career, Peralta has a 3.59 ERA and has proven to be one of the most consistent starting pitchers of the last few years, tossing at least 165 innings in three consecutive seasons.

After being eliminated in October, Peralta appeared to telegraph that a trade could be possible this winter.

“I’ve been here forever and I love this,” Peralta said. “I love the city of Milwaukee, the team, everyone here. And that’s coming from the bottom of my heart. At the end of the day, I understand this is a business and anything can happen.”
