President Trump said he’d have a one-on-one meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later on Tuesday.
The two leaders were not scheduled for a solo meeting although French President Emmanuel Macron told Zelensky he would try to arrange one. That appears to be successful.
“I’m meeting him later on today,” Trump said of the Ukrainian president.
He joined fellow G7 leaders in a group meeting with Zelensky on Tuesday morning. European leaders are pushing for an end to the Ukraine war and want Trump to support a peace deal made on Ukraine’s terms.
Trump appeared to take that angle when he urged Russia to make a peace deal.
“Russia should make a deal. Russia has lost tremendous amounts of people so has Ukraine,” he said.
