President Trump called for “tremendous self-regulation” of artificial intelligence at a White House lunch with tech billionaires — as he prepared to sign orders renaming AI as “super intelligence” in official communications.
“There’s a belief that there should be tremendous self-regulation,” Trump told reporters in the East Room, seated between Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang on his right and Elon Musk and Google’s Sundar Pichai on his left.
“We automatically have regulation with the Department of Justice, the FBI, all of that. But the self-regulation is very important.”
Trump said that he would sign documents around 5 p.m. Tuesday renaming AI to his favored new name.
Trump said the lunch, whose bigwigs included Jeff Bezos, Dario Amodei of Anthropic and Alex Karp of Palantir, featured “a lot of commonality” and that “we’re going to be putting out a statement in a little while summing up some of the things that we did.”
