It was a special day on the course for Tiger Woods and his family.
Moments after the 15-time major champion and his son, Charlie, finished the final round of the PNC Championship in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, Woods and ex-wife Elin Nordegren sweetly embraced before she hugged their son Charlie and 17-year-old daughter Sam, who served as the twosome’s caddie.
Woods, 48, who was married to Nordegren, 44, from 2004-10, finished second in the family team event, where 15-year-old Charlie shot his first-ever hole-in-one.
The teenager sunk his tee shot on the par-3 fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, with Woods — who initially wasn’t watching until the roar of the crowd suggested otherwise — commemorating the milestone moment by wrapping his son in a giant bear hug.
“It was a perfect 7-iron so I just kind of hit it. Just 175 [yards], a little down off the left, little cut seven,” Charlie told Golf Channel on Sunday.
“It was awesome. I didn’t think it went in. I don’t believe anybody until I go up there and see it.”
Even though Team Woods came up short in the playoff to Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, Woods was simply in awe following the family-filled tournament.
“That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one, (daughter) Sam on the bag, just our family and friends. That’s what this event is about. It’s about bonding and family,” said Woods, who finished with Charlie at 28-under.
“I know we didn’t win, but it was the fact that we competed.”
It’s been a busy few weeks for Charlie, a sophomore at the South Florida-based Benjamin School, who completed in the Class 1A state championship in November.
In the lead-up to the event, Woods and Nordegren supported Charlie at another high school golf tournament that same month. The Palm Beach Post reported at the time Nordegren “rode with Tiger in the golf cart part of the way” at Miami Shores Country Club.
Woods and Nordegren’s relationship has grown stronger over the years following a 2009 cheating scandal that imploded their marriage.
In 2015, Woods called Nordegren “one of my best friends.”
“We’re able to pick up the phone, and we talk to each other all the time. We both know that the most important things in our lives are our kids,” he said in an interview with Time.
Nordegren has since moved on with former NFL player Jordan Cameron. They share three children.
Woods was previously involved with Erica Herman from 2017-22.
In a lawsuit filed against Woods in March 2023, Herman asked to be removed from a non-disclosure agreement over a sexual assault and harassment clause. She dropped the suit that November.
