TAMPA – You can make it about just one inning. Or that it still will only be March 18. Or about the miles left to go.
That would be missing the drama, accomplishment and – really – the point.
This has been a boring Yankees spring camp – boring being great for an expected contender since it means no new injuries, an absence of controversy and mainly a veteran core getting ready for the test ahead. This is where “Running it back” with essentially the same roster as ended last year has resonance, evoking the dull ambience of been there, done that with this group.
Except with Gerrit Cole.
