Rex Ryan won 50 games as the Jets head coach, but it is one he lost that stands out in my memory as his best coaching job.
The 2014 Jets had lost four straight games to fall to 1-4 and faced Peyton Manning and the 3-1 Broncos at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 12, 2014. The Jets had no chance of winning the game. They had very little talent on defense. Manning was Manning and the Broncos were rolling.
But Ryan had a plan.
He knew he could drop so many players into coverage that Manning would audible to running plays and the Jets would still likely lose but taking the ball out of Manning’s right hand would give them a shot.
