The Dodgers had 16 different segments of 17 games last year in which they were 7-10 or worse. The Blue Jays had 13.

Those teams ultimately played in a classic seven-game World Series, which was won by the Dodgers, who also had a seven-game losing streak last July that was part of a bigger 10-losses-in-12-games stretch. It is a reminder that even the best teams are going to have a bad few weeks over the course of six months and 162 games.

So the fact that the Mets were 7-10 going into Tuesday night’s loss to the Dodgers could potentially be nothing more than a bad stretch for an ultimately good team. The past two Mets seasons should provide what I think the Tik Tok-ification of the world has removed — patience and perspective.

The 2024 Mets, 59 games into the season and through June 2, were 24-35, the majors’ sixth-worst record and third-worst in the NL. That team was the biggest surprise of that year, getting all the way to NLCS Game 6.
