After launching The Bold and the Beautiful nearly 40 years ago, original cast members John McCook and Katherine Kelly Lang aren’t worried about being killed off the show.
“I never, ever think they’re gonna kill me off,” Lang, 64, exclusively shared with Us Weekly while attending The Bold and the Beautiful BBTV launch event on Thursday, March 26. “I just don’t think that would happen. But it could, you never know.”
Ever since the show premiered in 1987, Lang has been playing Brooke Logan on the long-running soap opera. Through all the plot twists and OMG moments, the actress said she is still looking forward to going to work each and every day.
“I just love what I do,” she told Us. “I just think that shows year after year, and hopefully it does. And I’m just still having the best time.”
McCook, 81, has been playing Eric Forrester for nearly four decades. When asked if he fears for the day when writers kill him off, the actor said they have been unsuccessful.
“They’ve tried killing me off a couple of times in the last, late five years,” he told Us. “It just doesn’t work.”
While McCook joked that he appreciates the “job security,” starring on The Bold and the Beautiful is so much more than that.
“It’s just been the [biggest] blessing in our lives,” he shared with Us. “It’s been great. I don’t know how many American actors — how many actors in the whole world — can say they’ve had a paycheck for almost 40 years in the same job. Sometimes it’s like the antithesis of being an actor playing the same part for all those years, but I’m over it.”
Several past and present cast members came together in West Hollywood, California, to celebrate the launch of BBTV, a new global streaming service for The Bold and the Beautiful.
For the first time ever, more than 9,000 episodes will be available in their entirety, all in one place. The platform will also feature behind-the-scenes videos, original cast auditions, show bloopers and more.
When asked to reflect on the past 39 years, Lang couldn’t believe everything the show has accomplished.
“I’m just so grateful every year, every time I’m reminded that it’s another year,” she said. “It’s hard to believe that it’s been 39 years because it’s been so much fun, like, the best show to work on. I have the best boss, the best storylines, the best character. I love my character, and I’m just so, so grateful every day when I go to work.”
The Bold and the Beautiful airs on CBS weekdays.
