Texas must have liked what it saw.
The Longhorns fired coach Rodney Terry on Sunday, according to multiple reports, after the Longhorns were eliminated from March Mardness 2025 in the First Four by Xavier.
Then they subsequently hired Xavier coach Sean Miller.
Miller, 56, led Xavier for three seasons, including two NCAA Tournament appearances.
After the the No. 11-seeded Musketeers’ First Four win over Texas, they lost to No. 6-seeded Illinois, 86-73, in the first round.
Miller recorded a 185-87 overall record at Xavier.
He led Xavier to a Sweet 16 appearance in his first season in charge, but missed out on the tournament his second year and did not make it past the first round this year.
It ends his second stint as Xavier’s head coach, having coached the team from 2004-09 before leaving to lead Arizona for 12 seasons.
Recruiting violations and academic misconduct led to him being fired by Arizona in 2021 before returning to Xavier.
Terry, 56, had been in charge at Texas for three seasons.
He took over during the 2022-23 season after Chris Beard was suspended and subsequently led Texas to a Big 12 tournament title and run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
But he hasn’t found the same success the past two seasons.

They lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year and scraped in as one of the final teams in the field this year, forced to go through the First Four.
That’s where they lost to Xavier, 86-80, to end their season in disappointment.
“Thank you Longhorn Nation for your consistent support,” Terry posted on X following Texas’ loss to Xavier. “And a special thanks to all of our players, coaches and staff for your commitment and continuing to stay the course all season. Love you guys.”
It marked the end of his second stint in Texas, having previously served as an assistant from 2002-11 before leaving to take the head coach job at Fresno State from 2011-18.
He coached UTEP from 2018-21 and then returned to Texas on Beard’s staff.
He leaves with a 62-37 overall record with the Longhorns.
