Taylor Swift is opening up about her engagement to Travis Kelce for the first time.
The “Fate of Ophelia” singer, 35, said the NFL player, also 35, surprised her with the lavish floral proposal immediately after she recorded an appearance on his “New Heights” podcast in August.
“He really crushed it in surprising me. While we were talking on his podcast, he had a complete garden built out the back of his house to propose in,” she said on The Graham Norton Show in an interview set to air on BBC One in the U.K. on Friday, October 3. “He went all out — 10 out of 10.”
As for wedding plans, Swift said that she is currently focusing on the rollout of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which released on Friday.
“I want to do the album stuff first, and the wedding is what happens after in terms of planning. I think it will be fun to plan,” she shared with Norton.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on August 26. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” she captioned a series of photos of Kelce down on one knee.
Elsewhere in Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, Swift described the process of recording her new album while also on her record-breaking Eras Tour.
“Last year on the tour I was physically exhausted — sick and worn down — so to spark me up I had the album as a secret passion project behind the scenes. It stopped me hitting a wall,” she said.
The star also reflected on buying the masters to her first six albums back earlier this year after striking a deal with rights owners Shamrock Capital. (Swift’s former record label, Big Machine, sold the rights to the albums to Scooter Braun in 2019. Braun later sold the catalog to Shamrock Capital for $300 million.)
“A lifelong dream came true. I was able to buy my entire back catalog,” Swift enthused. “I don’t respond to stuff generally, but not owning it really pissed me off.”
“I didn’t think I should be given it — I was happy to pay, and at a premium,” she said. “I am glad I spoke publicly about it and my fans got behind it and championed it. I couldn’t believe it happened. Travis and I were in tears when it did. Every time it is mentioned, I get a wave of euphoria still.”
