Despite Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke‘s ups and downs, Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula wanted to make sure their costars were on good terms while filming their hit Bravo series.
“I was just like, ‘We need to break the ice. We can’t put this off.’ I felt the awkwardness,” Kyle, 42, exclusively told Us Weekly about the initial vibes between Lindsay and Carl when they started filming season 9. “I was just trying to convince him to find a moment in the kitchen where it’s just the two of them to wish Lindsay congratulations [on her pregnancy].” I know that’s how he was feeling and that’s what he was kind of conveying.”
Amanda recalled Carl wishing Lindsay well before cameras were even picked up, adding, “We obviously had conversations with Carl. We were traveling with him a lot too and he was like, ‘If this is true, I’m genuinely happy for her.’ For him to say something to her in person, it was probably hard but it was truly how he felt.”
Season 9 of Summer House picked up as Carl, 40, and Lindsay, 38, moved on from their high-profile split. The costars dated — and got engaged — on the show before calling it quits in August 2023, three months before their planned nuptials.
After initially crossing paths at the season 8 reunion last year, Lindsay surprised her costars when she announced that she was expecting a daughter with boyfriend Turner Kufe. (Their daughter, Gemma, was born in December 2024.)
“I think [Carl and Lindsay] were just happy to coexist,” Amanda, 33, noted. “Once the reunion aired, they were able to close that chapter and then they both were just moving on out.”
Kyle praised Carl and Lindsay for being “good sports” about filming together post-split. His wife credited that to their costars being “so similar” despite their tumultuous relationship.
“There’d be times where Carl would come home with breakfast and a few minutes later Lindsay would walk in the kitchen with coffee for everyone,” Amanda recalled. After production wrapped on season 9, Lindsay spoke to Us about sharing the screen with Carl.
“It was one of those moments where I actually was able to reflect. I don’t sit here and reflect on everything that happened [all the time]. Of course I relived it over the summer, but I have a lot to look forward to in my future,” she shared in October 2024. “I got really emotional about it because that is a hard thing to do. It is hard to pick yourself up after a heartbreak like that and to change your mentality and be your advocate for yourself. Yes, I’m proud of myself for doing that. But I’m also proud of the people who have inspired me to help them get through those tough moments.”
Lindsay added: “It all worked out. As hard as it is in those moments to trust the process, it is [all about] understanding that everything happens for a reason and that the universe does have your back.”
Kyle and Amanda have since noticed a positive shift. Last month, they even noticed Lindsay publicly wishing Carl a happy birthday on social media.
“There is such history there and we as a cast — and as friends — have been through so much together and our relationship is something that no one who doesn’t do the show with us will never understand,” Amanda added. “We just have a different relationship with each other and they’re always going to have that. So I would hope one day they can be in a room together and say hello and catch up.”
Summer House premieres on Bravo Wednesday, February 12, at 9 p.m. ET.
