Spanish soccer player Jesús de Miguel has died at age 30 after an on-field collision.

The CD Tenerife striker died early Tuesday, November 3, after reportedly being struck in the chest by another player during a game against FC Andorra on Monday, November 2.

“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” the soccer team said in a statement written in Spanish on Tuesday.

“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome,” CD Tenerife continued.

The statement concluded, “The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.”

According to the BBC and The Guardian, de Miguel suffered head and chest injuries after colliding with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during the final minutes of Monday’s game at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López in Santa Cruz, Spain. He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest.

Monday’s game between Tenerife and Andorra was abandoned, per the BBC. The score had been 2-2.

CD Tenerife said Monday evening that de Miguel was taken to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital and was in “stable but serious” condition. In an update later on Monday, the team said de Miguel’s condition had “worsened neurologically.”

On Tuesday, opposing team FC Andorra paid tribute to de Miguel in an Instagram post, as did other Spanish teams.

“There are no words to express the sadness of a loss like this,” the team said. “From FC Andorra we want to transfer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Jesús de Miguel, as well as the entire family of CD Tenerife.”

FC Andorra’s post continued, “We are with you in these very difficult times. Rest in peace, Jesús.”

Fellow Spanish team FC Barcelona shared via X on Tuesday, “From FC Barcelona, we deeply regret the tragic news of the passing of Jesús de Miguel, CD Tenerife player. Our thoughts and support are with his family, friends and loved ones during these difficult times.”
