Yes, Thunderbolts* is staking out its territory, but Sinners isn’t dead yet. From May 15 to May 21, nine Imax theaters in North America will invite Ryan Coogler’s film back inside for a limited rerelease. “Audiences have spoken, and we listened,” Warner Bros. president of global distribution Jeff Goldstein said in a statement. “If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible, larger-than-life format, it’s Sinners. Ryan has delivered a film that has been embraced by fans who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating a film for this screen-filling format and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it — or see it again — in 70-mm. Imax.” If you left before the post-credit scenes, here’s your second chance.
Theaters extending showtimes are located in Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Irvine, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Indianapolis, Tempe, and Ontario; tickets and location details are already available on Imax’s site. Sinners was initially expected to have its last day on Imax screens on May 1, but Warner Bros. wasn’t happily married to that idea. And that makes sense, given the film’s box-office success. Per Deadline, Imax screens in North America have generated 21 percent of Sinners’s domestic revenue as of April 27. And people made it clear on social media that they weren’t ready for the limited amount of theaters with the premium format to all switch to Marvel. So much like Cornbread, the internet’s honorary new City Girl, Sinners is gonna get its money.
