MILAN — Canada will go for gold without its captain.
Sidney Crosby was declared out of the gold medal game an hour before puck drop when lineups were released.
Crosby suffered a lower-body injury in the quarterfinals against Czechia and missed the remainder of the tournament.
For a second straight game, Connor McDavid wore the ‘C’ for Canada, as Olympic rules demand that each team name a captain.
Crosby participated in Canada’s practice on Saturday but it is not clear to what extent, as the practice was closed to reporters.
Crosby authored the most famous moment in Canada’s Olympic history, scoring the Golden Goal to defeat Team USA in the 2010 Vancouver final.
