In a new interview with Us Weekly, Kristina and Karissa Shannon compared Playboy founder Hugh Hefner to Diddy, revealed where they stand with the other Girls Next Door stars and gave insight into their future.
The sisters’ nearly two-year relationship with Hefner began when they were 18 and moved out of the Playboy mansion in 2011. They don’t look back fondly on their time with Hefner, who died in 2017 at age 91.
When asked if they would have anything to say to Hefner if he were still alive, Karissa said, “I would just ask him why he took advantage of us. We wouldn’t have to have a sit-down. I don’t think there’s an apology that he could issue us that would take back the trauma that he’s done to us.”
Kristina added, “[I would just say] ‘You really did f*** us up and take advantage of us.’ I’d be asking why he thought that was OK. Because Hef is Diddy. He was acting like Diddy and getting away with it.”
The twins, 35, said, “[Hef] took our innocence and took advantage of our age and how naïve we were. He made us have sex with him, or else he would throw our careers away! He had full control over us. He was not only controlling, he was also a predator. He took advantage of his power and position over us and owned us! We were HIS twins.”
They continued, “He put us on ‘room arrest’ when we tried to leave several times. Room arrest is when he has security sit outside your bedroom door, and they don’t let you leave. We were teenagers. He took full advantage.”
“We were under 21 and served alcohol and a s*** load of pills,” they added.
Both believe “more women would have come forward” with allegations against Hefner “than for Diddy” and suggested Hefner could’ve been “in jail” if he was alive during the #MeToo movement.
On July 2, Diddy was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution but was acquitted of racketeering charges. Prosecutors accused him of forcing women to participate in freak-off sessions. Diddy denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Karissa and Kristina became household names after appearing on the E! Playboy reality show, The Girls Next Door, in 2009. The twins, along with Hefner’s widow, Crystal Harris, replaced the three original cast members: Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson.
During their interview with Us, Kristina brought up a separate interview where Wilkinson, 40, described her time at the mansion as “heavenly.”
Karissa said that it “boggles us because we really, really feel bad for Kendra for comparing that type of behavior to heaven. The fact that she feels that that is heaven is very sad.”
She continued, “She must not know God, or she must not know Jesus, but for her to compare the Playboy Mansion experience or even Hugh Hefner to heaven is … it’s completely opposite.”
The two explained that Hefner was an atheist and looked down on his girlfriends going to church.
“He eventually put his foot down and said he didn’t want us going anymore to church on Sundays, that he needed us there for Sunday funday,” she said.
Despite their feelings on Wilkinson’s remarks, they express a desire to produce a Girls Next Door reunion with all six of the girls. Kristina explained, “We want to get everyone on board.”
The two said they are friends with Harris, 39, who went on to wed Hefner after they left the mansion. “She might be on board,” they explained.
“The problem is Holly, Bridget and Kendra. They’d be afraid of being upstaged or they didn’t come up with it first,” Kristina said. Karissa interjected, saying the girls can get “really catty.”
The girls described Madison, 45, as being “nice in the beginning” when they first moved in but said things quickly changed as they began sensing “jealousy.”
“Bridget’s never been nice,” Karissa alleged. “Bridget’s been the bully from the get.” They described an alleged movie night at the mansion where Marquardt, 51, shoved her foot in their face.
They also detailed Wilkinson being the one to take them up to Hef’s room on their 19th birthday, where they had their first sexual experience with Hef.
Kristina and Karissa said they do not keep in contact with Madison, Marquardt or Wilkinson. They do, however, plan on attending Harris’ upcoming wedding when invitations are sent out.
Harris tells Us, “The Shannon twins were a part of my life when we were just 19 and 21 — very young, and all figuring things out in a unique and very strange environment. Now that we’re all in our late thirties, I can look back on that time with a mix of perspective and compassion.”
“I’ll always have a soft spot for them and for anyone doing the hard work of trying to grow and better their lives,” she added. “In an ideal world, a Girls Next Door reunion where all six of us can come together with kindness and mutual respect would be a beautiful full-circle moment. But even just getting to a place of peace and friendliness — that would mean a lot.”
Kristina and Karissa also said they stay in touch with butlers from the mansion on Facebook but other staff shunned them for speaking out about Hefner’s alleged behavior. Kristina said, “There’s like a hater group. The mansion is split into like two sides, the side that still sticks up for Hef and the side that is admitting how much of a s***hole it was like Diddy’s palace.”
Kristina and Karissa explained they didn’t have a support system after leaving the mansion. They continued living in Los Angeles until moving to Las Vegas in 2017.
After leaving the mansion, the duo signed a deal with adult film company Brazzers to shoot scenes together. “It was like survival,” Karissa said, looking back on the decision to shoot porn.
“We were capitalizing on our way out … in the lane we’ve already been stuck in. We’ve already been nude. We’ve already done Playboy,” she continued. “And [on] national television we’ve been naked. They offered us a lot of money and at the time we needed our own support system, getting some money and then moving away.”
The twins used the money made from porn to buy their home in Michigan and are in the process of buying a second property in Florida. They told Us they cut off contact with their dad, who was sentenced to 36 months of probation in 2023 on charges of domestic battery by strangulation.
When contacted by Us, the twins father confirmed he has been estranged from them since October 2024. He had no comment on his arrest.
Kristina said they would consider OnlyFans in the future, but only tastefully done. She said, “We don’t do any more adult content. When I say that though, I mean, like, we don’t do hardcore content anymore. We’ll never do it again.” Her sister said she would show plastic surgery results but that was about it.
As for their dating lives, the sisters said they are both single and have been since 2018. “We tried dating apps,” Karissa said. “We’ve been on all the apps like Tinder, Bumble … Raya.”
“It hasn’t worked for us,” Kristina shared before revealing she wants to date Elon Musk and is even open to just having a baby with him. The sisters said their ideal man would be over 50 years old and “established.”
“We want a guy that’s like a businessman, a powerful man, an older man, a kind and generous man,” Karissa explained, adding that she had her eyes set on (married) President Donald Trump, who she has “the biggest crush” on.
“We love Trump,” the sisters said together. Trump has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 20 women. He has denied all claims of wrongdoing.
“I’m literally moving down to Florida. I’ll be around the corner. We’ll be right next door. I’ll be the Girl Next Door for Donald Trump. So, if Melania [Trump] ever decides to walk away … or decides to push his hand away and not like him anymore, I’m all for being there for him if he ever wants to pursue me.”
Kristina and Karissa did note that even though they are single, they still enjoy sex.
Karissa told Us, “We’ve been naughty girls. We love sex. Sex is like art to us.”
Kristina and Karissa also revealed they are working on a dating show currently being pitched to production companies. On top of that, the duo is planning a podcast and a line of organic products. The pair also have a dream of becoming mothers.
“We really both want to have babies at the exact same time and get pregnant at the exact same time,” Karissa shared with Us. “And time is ticking, we’re 35 turning 36 [on] October 2. We both want to have like five kids each. We both want twins or triplets.”
“We’re doing really good,” Kristina said. “We’re in the best shape of our lives. We’re the healthiest we’ve ever been.”
