The Rangers crossed another two restricted free agents off their to-do list this summer.
Top goalie prospect Dylan Garand signed a one-year extension on Sunday, the team announced. It’s a two-way deal worth the league minimum of $775,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level, with $125,000 guaranteed, per a source.
Now that Louis Domingue is headed for the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia, Garand is third in line to the Rangers net as the most senior goaltender in Hartford.
While the 23-year-old netminder has taken warmups with the Blueshirts on more than one occasion, Garand has yet to make his NHL debut. He’s been marinating with the team’s AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, since the 2020-21 season.
Over that span, Rangers goaltending has been a lock with the likes of Igor Shesterkin, Alexandar Georgiev, Jonathan Quick, Jaroslav Halak and Domingue serving as first, second and third stringers, respectively.
Drafted 103rd overall by the Rangers in 2020, Garand was tabbed as an AHL All-Star for the first time last season after setting career highs in wins (20-10-8), save percentage (.913) and goals-against average (2.73) in 39 games. He also collected three shutouts.
The Rangers also signed goaltender Talyn Boyko on Sunday, giving their 112th-overall pick in 2021 the same deal as Garand. Boyko appeared in five games for the Wolf Pack last season after spending a majority of the 2024-25 campaign in the ECHL with the Tulsa Oilers.
Over those five contests, Boyko posted a 2-2 record with one shutout, a .917 save percentage and a 2.61 GAA. In his first career AHL start, the 22-year-old also picked up an assist.
