Regardless of what Sami Sheen thinks, Patrick Muldoon assures fans that he is not in love with Denise Richards.
“We dated on and off in the ’90s, but since then, it’s been just friendship,” Muldoon, 57, shared on the Wednesday, October 22, episode of iHeartRadio’s “MisSPELLING” podcast. “Sammi, we are friends.”
In a March episode of Denise Richards and Her Wild Things, Richards, 54, teamed up with Muldoon to play the love interest in his music video. The duo’s apparent chemistry caught the attention of Richards’ eldest daughter, 21.
“He’s very flirty with her, I’m not gonna lie,” Sheen said on the show. “I don’t want to get him in trouble, but I feel like he might still have feelings for my mom. Just an idea.”
During his latest podcast appearance, Muldoon said he’s had a girlfriend for the past two years and Richards is simply a “dear friend.”
“The thing about Denise and I is everybody thinks we met on Starship Troopers, but we met in acting class when she was 19 and I was 21,” he told guest host Elisa Donovan. “We both don’t come from entertainment families, and our families got to know each other over the years and kind of checked in with each other on navigating the crazy stuff that we all go through.”
Donovan, 54, suggested that Sheen may have brought that up as “wishful thinking,” possibly because Muldoon “seems to be a good guy.”
The Days of Our Lives alum admitted that he’s cool with both of Richards’ adult kids.
“I have a good relationship with both Lola and Sami,” he said. “I’ve known them since they were first born, and so I have a good relationship with both.”
“Denise and I are very tight buddies, and she’s going through a rough spot right now with everything,” Muldoon continued. “I wish her the best for sure, and we’re friends.”
In July, Us Weekly confirmed that Richards and Aaron Phypers had called it quits after six years of marriage.
Phypers, 53, was first to file for divorce on July 7 and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. In the weeks and months that followed, both parties dropped shocking allegations against the other and found themselves in a legal battle.
“She loved him for all he’s done and supported his dreams, but it’s also been a big financial burden on her that she can’t continue to carry,” an insider told Us shortly after the divorce was announced. “It took a toll on both of them.”
As Richards continues her friendship with Muldoon, she also appears to be in a good place with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
In September, the former couple posed together on the red carpet of Netflix’s aka Charlie Sheen premiere in Hollywood.
“We both looked at each other on the red carpet and just laughed. Charlie asked, ‘Is it 2002?’ and I said, ‘It sure feels like it.’ Who would have thought?” Richards wrote via Instagram on September 5. “What a journey we’ve had — so many ups and downs. But when life gets tough, deep down we both know we can count on each other. I’m so proud of him, and truly honored he asked me to be part of his story. Congrats, Charles ❤️.”
