MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough had a meltdown Tuesday after their guest, Donny Deutsch, claimed President Trump “co-opted America’s heartbeat” by pardoning Jan. 6 offenders.
Much to the ire of Democrats, hours after taking office on Monday, Trump tackled an item at the top of his to-do list and pardoned approximately 1,500 Capitol rioters and commuted 14 prison sentences.
“Way Too Early” host Ali Vitali noted Trump was able to exonerate Jan. 6 rioters with “the stroke of a pen,” before huffing that everyone in “Washington and beyond” would have to accept that “this is how it is now.”
As Scarborough jumped in to note that the election was close, by “1.5 percent,” and the Republican majority in both congressional houses is small, Deutsch interjected.
“I just want to add one thing to that, we can say that to ourselves but he [Trump] has co-opted America’s heartbeat,” Deutsch said.
Brzezinski tried to interject, telling Deutsch, “If America’s heartbeat is to have hostage families standing behind him, that marketing visual is quite something.”
Deutsch quickly replied, “I’m not saying you might not like that,” before talking over her protests and saying, “Listen to me, listen to me, listen to me.”
“I’m talking about J6,” Brzezinski sharply replied, referring to Jan. 6, 2021.
“People will absorb it because he gives them what they want in other places,” Deutsch responded. “This is just … I want the Dems to learn that you can even get away with things as ridiculous as that if you’re feeding people what they want to hear and what they need.”
“Yeah,” Brzezinski huffed.
Scarborough then jumped in, reminding Brzezinski that Trump “told them [Americans] what he was going to do.”
“He did,” she replied.
“And he’s providing the bread and the circuses, as they said in Roman days,” Scarborough continued. “That entertains them. But underneath that, are things that he’s doing breaking one norm after another.”
Deutsch tried to interject saying, “Nobody’s saying ignore it, I’m saying the opposite, actually.”
Scarborough continued, noting that Trump promised he was “going to break every norm.”
