49ers receiver Mike Evans has endured an injury-riddled training camp.
The latest ailment for the veteran appears to be a groin injury, according to NBC Sports, as he was on the side field for Tuesday’s practice. The team hasn’t confirmed the nature of the injury yet.
Over the last week, Evans has left practice early twice — which spells bad news for the 49ers even before the 2026 season has started.
Evans has also dealt with a quad injury this summer as he prepares to make his 49ers debut in 2026, his 13th season in the league.
The 6-foot-5 wideout has missed 12 out of 34 games the past two seasons with the Buccaneers.
San Francisco signed Evans to a three-year, $60.4 million deal in March, and the 33-year-old’s health has been a point of contention with fans who are tired of the ongoing injury plague in the Bay Area.
If Evans is healthy to start the season, he will immediately slot in as the team’s WR1. The 49ers have been cautious about Evans’ throughout camp, but his latest absence from practice isn’t encouraging.
Christian Kirk, another new wide receiver for the team, was also among multiple players on the side field Tuesday.
Wide receiver depth seems to be key for San Francisco this season, especially with the loss of Ricky Pearsall to season-ending surgery.
